Bladen Co. Sheriff’s Office captain’s former K9 to be laid to rest alongside him
BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Captain Daniel Clark died at his home on Monday, April 1, according to the BCSO.
Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker posted on the BCSO Facebook page saying, “Please remember the family, friends and Bladen County Sheriff’s Office staff in your prayers as we mourn the loss of Captain Daniel M. Clark (Car 4).”
Retired K9 Deputy Jaxx, who Clark was the handler for, is set to be cremated and laid to rest alongside Clark. He had been taking care of Jaxx at his home, but Jaxx was in failing health over the past months. He was 10 years old with eight years of service.
The visitation for Clark is set for Friday, April 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at New Light Church on 307 Chestnut Street, Bladenboro. Then the funeral will be the next day at the same place at 2 p.m., and the burial will follow the service at Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery at 2409 Old Peanut Road, Elizabethtown.
Clark began working for the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office in September 2010. He was promoted to Captain in 2022.
“Captain Clark served in many roles at the Sheriff’s Office including Patrol, K-9 Officer, Narcotics, and Criminal Investigation Division,” the post said.
Clark was a combat medic in the Army before joining the sheriff’s office. He used those skills to save a woman’s life back in 2022 when she was attacked by two dogs.
Sheriff McVicker said they are all having a tough time grasping this news as Captain Clark played a big role at the BCSO. Right now, they’re asking for everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers as they work through this tragedy.
A cause of death was not shared.
BCSO officers will be accompanying the vehicle that will be bringing Captain Daniel Clark home.
“Bladen County Sheriff’s Office asks that all supporters please line the shoulder of the roads of Hwy 87 between Dublin and Elizabethtown on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Times will be announced tomorrow midday. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home,” BCSO wrote on their Facebook page.
