Crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation will close the Southport-Fort Fisher ferry route on Jan. 6 for approximately three months to replace the aging cable-counterweight ramp system at the ferry terminals.
New trolley will replace the previous trolley, with a revised route and a new name. The community engaged in a naming contest, and in May 2019, the votes were in favor of the new name, Port City Trolley.
The N.C. Department of Transportation said the northbound bridge on U.S. 701 in Bladen County will remain closed as NCDOT crews identify a plan to repair substructure damage caused by Hurricane Florence floodwaters.
The N.C. Department of Transportation on Thursday will begin shifting traffic onto the new portion of U.S. 421 near the New Hanover-Pender county line, nearly a year after floodwaters from Hurricane Florence destroyed one of the main thoroughfares into Wilmington.
The Saturday attacks on Saudi Arabian oil facilities were the largest in the county’s history. While it is still uncertain who is responsible for these attacks, the United States Government has called it an attempt to impact the global economy.
