NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Mary Douglass Bruno pleaded guilty last week during administrative court, according to the District Attorney's office.

Bruno received a 92-120 month active sentencing for her plea to accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, said Samantha Dooies, the District Attorney's assistant.

Bruno was arrested last November on charges connected to the death of her late husband, Carmine Anthony Bruno. A jury found Dennis Benjamin Roy guilty of first-degree murder and he was sentenced to life in prison.

Roy confessed in 2010 to assaulting Carmine Bruno with a bat while he was sleeping. Deputies said Roy was upset over the way Bruno spoke to his wife. Roy was a tenant of the Bruno family at their home on 101 South Branch Road in Wilmington.

Mary Bruno first told authorities she was given drugs when her husband was killed, which kept her in an incoherent state for a few days. After further investigation, officials determined she was not incoherent and was an active participant in her husband's death.

Carmine Bruno's daughter was reportedly present for the plea.
