Older adults offered free chance to star in upcoming production of ‘The Music Man SR.’
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Local residents age 55 and older can take center stage without paying a dime as a community theater program opens auditions for its next musical.
Following its debut season, the Let’s Take the Stage program is returning to stage a new adaptation of Meredith Willson’s Tony Award-winning musical comedy, “The Music Man SR.” Designed for performers of all skill levels, the initiative provides older adults an opportunity to explore acting, singing, and dancing in a supportive environment.
The production is directed by James Bowling, with choreography by Timothy Mills and music direction by Marie Andrasick. Organizers noted that artistic growth should not stop with age.
“Let’s Take the Stage allows us to extend that mission to adults 55 and over—creating a place for older adults to connect, try something new, share their talents, and experience the excitement of being part of a theatre community,” said Susan Habas, executive director of Thalian Association Community Theatre.
Participants can prepare through free monthly acting and dance sessions, as well as a dedicated preparation clinic:
