CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - Britt’s Donut Shop announced it will open a second location this fall, according to a post on the shop’s Instagram.

The expansion announcement comes after the Carolina Beach boardwalk staple opened its 2026 season on April 3, its first season without longtime owner Bobby Nivens, who died in October 2025 at age 86.

The business has not yet disclosed the city of the new location.

Hundreds of people lined up at Britt’s for opening day, some waiting for hours. Carolina Beach Mayor Lynn Barbee was also among those in line.

“They were fantastic,” Barbee had said of the donuts. “It’s a tradition that goes back a long time.”

Officials had paused before opening to recognize Niven’s, who had operated the shop since the 1970s. Barbee said Niven’s began working at Britt’s when he was 12. The shop first opened in 1939.

“He is Britt’s Donuts,” Barbee previously told WECT. “To lose him this year was tough not only on his family but this community. To be here today and see his legacy continue actually lifts us all, just a little bit.”

Britt’s also said it will open for limited hours in December, with plans to be open the weekend of the Carolina Beach Christmas Parade and to host a Donut Decorating Night. Hours and a full schedule were not yet available.

The shop has not announced a city or address for the second location. On social media, Britt’s asked followers to guess where the new store will open, saying more details are coming soon.
