Carolina Beach Police Department welcomes first K9 trained for hidden electronics
CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - The Carolina Beach Police Department (CBPD) is welcoming a K9 specially trained in detecting hidden electronics.
Two-year-old K9 Liberty is CBPD’s first electronic detection K9 and is among 75 dogs certified in electronic detection nationwide.
K9 Liberty was trained to locate concealed electronics such as smartphones, spy cameras, hard drives, USB drives and micro-SD cards.
CBPD says that Liberty’s expertise will support investigations into child exploitation, fraud, narcotics, and other crimes involving digital evidence.
“Liberty graduated from the United States Secret Service’s (USSS) Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) K9 program at the National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI). His training and placement were funded by the United States Secret Service,” CBPD wrote in a press release.
CPBD’s James Tice, a detective and digital forensic examiner, will handle K9 Liberty.
