SURF CITY, N.C. (WECT) - The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center hosted a sea turtle release of 27 turtles on Thursday, May 16.
“It’s a record-breaking year at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Center. Did you know we’ve cared for more turtles in 2024 than in any previous year? We’ve had 144 so far, and it’s only May! Now it’s time for a record-breaking sea turtle release,” a Karen Beasley Center announcement states.
The center works to protect sea turtles on local coasts, and provided the following tips for beachgoers:
- Please stay off the dunes! The dunes protect our beach for the benefit of turtles and people alike!
- Please pick up all trash and dispose of it properly. Trash and Recycling bins are located nearby. Let’s keep our beautiful beaches clean for turtles and people!
