UPDATE: Nakina man charged in deadly church van crash in SC

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Columbus County man has been charged in a fatal accident involving a church van Tuesday.

The wreck happened on Highway 9 Bypass and Highway 747 in Loris, South Carolina.

Rebecca Dew, from Whiteville, NC, was ejected from the van and killed in the crash. According to Corporal Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Marion McLamb, the driver of the van, has been charged for failure to yield, pulling out in front of another vehicle.

The church van was from Faith Apostolic Church in Nakina. The SCHP says the van drove through a stop sign, hitting a chevy pickup and causing it to overturn.

Three additional passengers were in the van, while two additional passengers were in the truck.

Brian VanAernam with Horry County Fire Rescue says five trauma patients were taken to a nearby hospital.

Loris Fire, Horry County Fire, Horry County PD and Highway Patrol responded to the accident.
