UPDATE: Alleged Pender Co. copper thief arrested in NY extradited back to NC

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A man arrested in New York for breaking into and stealing property out of Duke Energy sub-stations throughout Pender County has been extradited back to North Carolina.

According to the Pender County Sheriff's Office, Matthew Blake Horrell was taken into custody by detectives with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office in New York on Friday, Jan. 16.

Officials say Horrell broke into several Duke Energy sub-stations throughout Pender County and stole copper and tools.

In addition to Pender County, Horrell is the primary suspect in other break-ins involving Duke Energy electrical sub-stations in surrounding and outer counties.

Horrell is expected to face 23 felony charges and is currently in the Pender County Jail under a $610,000 bond.
