North Topsail Beach crews pull person from water in Friday rescue
NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - North Topsail Beach Fire and Police departments pulled a person from the water Friday afternoon after responding to a rescue call, the town said.
Town officials said on social media that they were “happy to report this was a successful rescue.” The victim received medical treatment following the rescue.
Authorities ask the public to use caution near the North Topsail inlet and sandbar, an area prone to fast-moving currents and steep underwater drop-offs.
The rescue comes weeks after a separate water emergency at North Topsail Beach. In early June, 24-year-old Marquest Page Jr., of Laurinburg, drowned after he went into the water at Beach Access 3 to rescue a child who had floated out too far. The child reached shore, but Page was overcome by the current. His body was recovered on June 8.
