WINNABOW, N.C. (WECT) - Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a wildfire along Funston Road on Monday afternoon that crossed two fire districts.

Boiling Spring Lakes Fire Rescue units arrived shortly after 1 p.m. to find a woods fire burning in a lumber tract near Daws Creek Road, the department said. The fire was reportedly difficult to access initially.

Funston Road was closed between Governors and Caison Loop due to fire behavior and smoke conditions. The fire was moving toward the road and created a smoke screen in the area, officials said.

The Winnabow Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 1:20 p.m. to assist response efforts, according to a post from the department.

Units operated for approximately three hours to bring the fire under control. The fire has since been 100% contained, according to the North Carolina Forest Service.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

A burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Brunswick County remains in effect due to extreme drought conditions and high fire risk.
