HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The family of a man who died after being shot outside an Horry County bar says they need clarity from authorities.

The coroner’s office confirmed that 41-year-old Dannie Pigotte Jr. died at the hospital after being shot outside Magoo’s Sports and Spirits on Waccamaw Boulevard.

According to a police report, Horry County police arrived at Magoo’s around 2 a.m. for a shooting in progress.

In a message, HCPD spokesperson Thomas Bell told WMBF that two people in total were taken to the hospital.

When WMBF asked if anyone had been arrested related to the shooting, Bell wrote that ‘all individuals involved have been accounted for."

Pigotte’s mother, Georgina Miller, told WMBF that her family is asking for clarity and answers from investigators.

Miller described Pigotte as a loving father to six children and a leader in his extended family.

She said he served in the military, twice being deployed to Iraq. Pigotte was living with his mother in Shallotte at the time that he died, and had been visiting the Myrtle Beach area for the weekend.

“He said, ‘Mom, I’ll be back Sunday morning, and he told me he loved me,” Miller said. “I said, ‘You be safe,’ like that, and he said, ‘Okay, mom.’”

Miller said an Horry County coroner told her Pigotte was shot four times, but her family knows very little about the shooting.

She and her sister Shirly Rankin said they feel like they’re being kept in the dark.

“Nobody has been giving us anything, nobody’s answered our questions, nobody’s called and said, you know what, this is what we got so far,” she said. “We just need to know why it took so long for you guys to come talk to us.”

Miller said she wants answers from investigators as soon as she seeks justice for her son.

“I do wanna get to the bottom of it ... and I want somebody to be held accountable, because my son didn’t deserve that, especially as someone who served this country,” she said. “Nobody deserves to be shot four times, nobody.”

WMBF went to Magoo’s to ask the business owner or management if new safety policies would be implemented, but was told the owner would not be available for some time as he was speaking with the police.

A message left asking for comment has not been returned.
