Oak Island crews plant sea oats to protect beach dunes
OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) - Crews in Oak Island are planting vegetation along the town’s beaches this week.
According to the town, locally harvested sea oats will be planted on dune areas as part of the 2025-2026 Beach Nourishment Project. The sea oats will help to stabilize and secure the dunes.
During planting, only one vehicle with a trailer will operate on the beaches. The town urges the public to maintain a safe distance from the equipment and to avoid stopping the vehicle or engaging with the crews.
The planting project is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, through Friday, May 1. No beach or access closure will be in place at this time.
