Man facing first-degree murder charges following Chadbourn shooting

A Columbus County man is facing murder charges after a shooting that left one person dead on Sunday.

CHADBOURN, N.C. (WECT) - A Columbus County man is facing murder charges after a shooting that left one person dead on Sunday.

According to arrest warrants, William Cody Inman was arrested for allegedly shooting into a home on Dudney Lane in Chadbourn on Dec. 21.

“Upon arrival, deputies discovered a male victim who was unresponsive. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures, performing chest compressions and continuing those efforts until emergency medical personnel arrived. Despite the deputies’ determined and sustained attempts to save him, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as David Ray Ivey Jr.,” the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.

A woman and a child were also inside the home at the time of the shooting, along with the victim, arrest warrants said.

Inman is charged with:

  • Felony first-degree murder
  • Two felony counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property

Inman is being held at the Columbus County Detention Center under no bond.

“Our deputies responded immediately and did everything humanly possible to try to save the victim’s life. This is a heartbreaking loss for the family and our community. We will continue working diligently to ensure justice is served,” said Sheriff Rogers.
