13 people shot, 2 dead in Robeson County, according to deputies
ROBESON CO., N.C. (WECT) - Officials with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office confirm 13 people have been shot, including at least two dead, following a mass shooting just outside of Maxton.
The two victims killed have been identified as Jessie Locklear Jr., 49, and Nehemiah Locklear, 16, both of Lumberton.
Deputies say it happened during a large Halloween party on Saturday morning at a home with about 300 people in attendance. We’re told law enforcement officials were called to the scene around 1:15 a.m.
Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins says there is no threat to the community, and it appears to have been an isolated incident.
No arrests have been made yet, but Wilkins says there are persons of interest, and officials did find a weapon at the scene.
“There are multiple weapons based on the ammunition we’ve found,” said Wilkins. “Based on statements, several people shooting at each other with no regard for the crowd.”
He says more than 150 people ran from the location before law enforcement arrived. However, Wilkins says some people who attended the party are not cooperating with the investigation.
“Which is sadly common for a situation like this when you have this many people here,” said Wilkins. “Unfortunately, we’ve had another incident in the county a year or two ago, similar scenario, 150 people there, and no one wanted to talk; it’s still an unsolved murder today.”
They’re asking anyone with information or anyone who was at the scene when it happened to make contact with Sheriff’s Investigators by calling 910-671-3100 or by emailing sheriff.wilkins@robesoncountysonc.gov.
