ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) - Authorities in Georgia say seven people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 85.

The crash, which involved six vehicles, happened around 4:15 p.m. Monday in Jackson County. A tractor-trailer reportedly hit a Dodge van, causing a chain reaction between the other vehicles.

The van caught fire, and seven people inside were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The victims have not been identified.

According to the Associated Press, an eighth body was discovered later at the crash site, but details about where the person was found were not immediately released.

Aerial footage of the crash site showed a tractor-trailer with a charred cab on the side of the road and a car with severe damage.

The crash closed all northbound lanes of I-85 in the area until almost 9:45 p.m.

Jackson County is just over 60 miles northeast of Atlanta.
