Trump administration wins rescissions battle

House joins Senate to yank back $9 billion in spending they’d already agreed to

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The House of Representatives passed the rescissions package overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

This now gives the Trump administration the green light to cut funding for foreign aid and public broadcasting.

These cuts clawback $9 billion dollars in funding for public broadcast, and foreign aid - $8 billion of that was originally intended for foreign aid assistance programs, like the now-gutted USAID.

$1 billion is being stripped from the corporation for public broadcasting which buoys organizations like PBS and NPR.

Those cuts will likely kneecap smaller, rural public broadcasting radio and television stations across the country. The total federal spending is more than $5 trillion.

The passage didn’t come without some drama.

It first had to clear the hurdle of the House Rules Committee, in which Democrats tried to force a vote to release the Epstein files. They were unsuccessful.

However, more and more Republicans on the hill are now joining that growing chorus to have those files, and that alleged client list released.

Office of Budget and Management Director Russ Vought has promised a second round of rescissions “soon.”
