PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) — Authorities in Arizona are looking for two drivers who hit and killed a woman and her dog Friday.

According to police in Phoenix, the hit and runs took place around 1 a.m. near 51st Avenue and Elwood Street, south of Lower Buckeye Road.

Officers said a Toyota Tacoma was driving south on 51st Avenue when the driver struck 29-year-old Brittany Geib while she was in the road with her dog, Dexter.

The driver then reportedly drove away from the scene and continued driving south.

Investigators said a driver in a second car, possibly a Toyota Camry, also hit Geib and sped off.

Officials said both Geib and her dog died at the scene.

The tragedy has left Geib’s older sister, Ashley Woods, distraught.

She said she is trying to understand why the drivers didn’t stop while she grapples with the knowledge that she will never see her sister again.

“We understand it may have been an accident, but stop, she laid (sic) there dying,” Woods said.

Geib leaves behind multiple pets and three young children, all under the age of 18.

“Brittany was just full of life,” Woods said. “She loved her kids, loved her family, loved her pets. She was a good person. She had a heart, she would do anything for anybody.”

Woods said she now has a message for the people responsible for her sister’s death.

“Turn yourself in. We understand this may have been an accident, but do the right thing,” she said.

Police are now urging anyone with information related to the hit and runs to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377). Tips can also be submitted anonymously online. Tipsters are eligible for a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
