INTERVIEW: Make Music Day celebrations to return to Wilmington next week
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Across the world, celebrations for Make Music Day are taking place on June 21, and this year marks the second year Wilmington has celebrated the occasion.
Alisa Harris with the Arts Council of Wilmington visited the WECT studio to discuss the upcoming events happening at the Plaza on Princess Street and the Harrelson Center.
“Make Music Day was started in 1982 in France to celebrate the winter solstice,” Harris said. “Music is a universal language and from there it’s traveled worldwide, over a dozen countries and two thousand cities are celebrating Make Music Day on the day of the summer solstice.”
Harrelson Center is hosting an outdoor venue that celebrates all types of musicians who are making free music available to the public.
“It’s gonna highlight musicians of all kinds of all skill levels,” Harris said.
Harris said that last year’s response was huge from the community with a mix of all kinds of people who came out.
