Deputies identify remains of 2 people, ages 18 and 16, who were found in JetBlue landing gear
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (WFOR) - Authorities have identified the two people whose bodies were found in the landing gear area of a plane in Florida nearly three months ago.
The two were identified as 18-year-old Jeik Aniluz Lusi and 16-year-old Elvis Borques Castillo.
Both were found during a routine post-flight maintenance inspection of a JetBlue plane at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said extensive DNA testing was used to confirm their identities.
The nationalities of the stowaways haven’t been released.
According to a 2011 FAA report, roughly 80% of people who try to fly in the wheel well or another external compartment of an aircraft die there.
