Volunteers give back to veterans through Lowe’s Hometowns program
BOLIVIA, N.C. (WECT) - Lowe’s Home Improvement is partnering up with Willett’s Horse Farm in Brunswick County to give back to veterans experiencing PTSD.
It’s part of Lowe’s Hometowns program, where they fund projects in communities across the country.
Volunteers from Lowe’s in Southport came out to Willett’s in Bolivia to build fire pits, and landscaping, and to install a 30-foot flag pole to display the American flag.
The farm is home to At Liberty Connections, a retreat for veterans who experience anxiety, depression, and PTSD after serving in the armed forces.
Brunswick County is home to around 18,000 veterans, and Randy Modlin, manager at Lowe’s in Southport, said many of those veterans often have invisible wounds.
Modlin is a veteran himself. He said the work is all about paying it forward and helping those who bravely served our country.
“Every year I try to do something hopefully centered around a veterans facility. I get the whole thing about the fire pit, the communion around the fire pit, you know, the camaraderie. You’re sharing their stories in their past, and it may help some of their issues or the problems they have. That’s really why we wanted to come out here and do this,” Modlin said.
