COMMUNITY CLASSROOM: Teacher needs donations to purchase playground equipment and first aid kits

TABOR CITY, N.C. (WECT) - Kelly Watts hears it all the time--fellow teachers at Tabor City Elementary asking to use each other’s playground equipment. So, she’s asking for help buy every teacher their own set. She’s asking for donations through DonorsChoose, an online charity that helps teachers get funding for school projects.

Watts, who teaches grades 3-5 is calling her project Can I Borrow That?

“Can I borrow your basketball? Can you cover for me so I can go get a band aid from the nurse? I can’t tell you how many times I have seen our teachers ask to borrow items because we do not have enough of them,” Watts said on her DonorsChoose page. “It’s time for them to have things of their own without worrying about replacing or returning a piece of equipment.

Watts needs $1,793. Once she is fully funded, DonorsChoose will purchase the equipment and first aid kits and deliver them to the school.
