CHADBOURN, NC (WECT) - Two men have been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of a Chadbourn teenager in 2014.

The State Bureau of Investigation on Monday charged Hakeem Gaines, 19, and Tyriek McKinnies, 20, both of Chadbourn, with the September murder of 16-year-old Travis Lee Bellamy, according to SBI spokeswoman Teresa West. She said authorities believe both men fired upon Bellamy on West Institute Street in September.

Chadbourn Police Chief Robert Mumblow previously said Bellamy was talking on a cell phone when a silver car arrived and its occupants began arguing with Bellamy. Shortly after, witnesses told police they heard shots fired.

Bellamy was shot twice, once in the head and once in the side, according to Mumblow.

He said Bellamy had two guns in his pants pockets, but there was no evidence that he fired back.

Gaines and McKinnies were being held in the Columbus County Detention Center without bond, West said. They were scheduled to make a first appearance in court Tuesday.
