WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The SBI has wrapped up an investigation into possible criminal activity by the Wilmington Police Department, according to the NC Department of Justice.
The investigation was requested earlier this year in response to allegations the WPD Narcotics Unit botched an undercover sting that opened in December 2012 and closed at the end of February 2013.
A news release said the investigation stated the officers acted outside of acceptable standards for the use of alcohol on an undercover prostitution and drug sting, but did not break any laws.
District Attorney Ben David said in a report in March the SBI's probe could potentially lead to criminal charges.
The NCDOJ said Wednesday agents are in the process of finalizing the reports to hand over to David.
