WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - The Coast Guard rescued a man Saturday morning from a sinking yacht in Masonboro Inlet.

"We didn't have a lot of time to respond," Joshua Meeks of the Coast Guard said. "The boat had one passenger, and we got him off quickly. It took Tow Boat U.S. nearly 18 hours to recover the boat from the water on Saturday morning."

The 60-foot yacht hit a rock jetty and then started taking on water while a 59-year-old man was on board.

The Wrightsville Beach Station received a mayday call at 9:37 a.m. and rescued the man within a matter of minutes.

He was not injured and was taken back to the Wrightsville Beach Coast Guard station.

The 60-foot-yacht "Somewhere in Time" sank.

Once the boat was recovered by Tow Boat U.S. early Saturday morning, it was taken to a local marina.

The passenger on board the boat was not the owner, he was the captain. The boat was being transported to Florida to the original owner.
