Bald Head Island celebrates America 250 with live reenactment and block party
BALD HEAD ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) - Bald Head Island will mark America’s 250th anniversary with a Battle of Fort George celebration over Labor Day weekend.
The Labor Day weekend celebration will feature the America 250 Battle of Fort George live reenactment and a block party presented by the Old Baldy Foundation and The North Carolina Fourth of July Festival.
Organizers say the weekend will include living history, Old Baldy Lighthouse and museum access, local craft spirits, Southern barbecue, music and family activities. Attendance will be limited.
The live reenactment is planned on the historic earthworks at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, highlighting the island’s long role in coastal defense and navigation.
Ticketed guests will travel by private ferry from Deep Point Marina on the mainland and walk from the island ferry terminal to the gated event grounds at Old Baldy.
The event runs Sept. 5–6; the Fort George Block Party is Sunday, Sept. 6, with reenactments at noon and 3:30 p.m. that day.
