Food truck explosion caused by gas leak, officials say

QUINCY, Il. (WGEM/Gray News) - A food truck in Illinois exploded overnight, with officials citing a possible gas leak.

Big Bro’s BBQ & Catering in Quincy, close to the Missouri border, exploded shortly before 4 a.m. on May 8.

“Food trucks are typically sourced from fuel with LP gas, and there’s some reason that there was an issue with the gas and leaking into the compartment, the trailer, and some kind of ignition source, most likely electrical, is what caused the explosion,” said Quincy Fire Chief Steve Salrin.

No foul play was suspected by investigators. Big Bro’s officials said it was a hazard of using propane for a mobile unit.

No injuries were reported.
