Viral video of kindergartners fighting posted on social media by school administrator, parent says
ATLANTA (ANF/Gray News) — A video of a physical altercation between kindergartners at a Georgia school has millions of views across multiple social media platforms.
The fight occurred at Kindezi School at Old Fourth Ward last week. A parent says the video was seen online after it was posted on social media by a school administrator.
“I’m just trying to wrap my head around it; it’s on so many pages, it’s everywhere,” Swan Boykins said.
Boykins’ 6-year-old son Kairo is shown being kneed in the midsection during the altercation.
“I feel like kids, they’re going to be kids, the bigger issue to me is the staff member,” she said. “They have a standard that should be held. He [the administrator] shouldn’t have posted it.”
The now-viral video is timestamped 7:30 a.m. Friday.
In the video, a Kindezi student can be seen grabbing, kicking and kneeing multiple students around a table in the dining hall.
Boykins said she didn’t see the video until Sunday.
“I found out from another fifth-grade student who told my other son,” she said. “They sent the link for me to see.”
An email sent to Kindezi kindergarten parents at 7:08 p.m. Sunday was the first time that school officials addressed the incident, Boykins said.
“They [were] going to probably try and sweep it under the rug,” Boykins said. “From my understanding, [the person who posted the video] was told to delete the video on Friday, and he didn’t.”
Dr. Kelly Gunn, executive director of The Kindezi School, said the school is aware of the video and is investigating.
“The safety, dignity, and privacy of our students are our highest priorities,” Gunn said in a statement. “We find the unauthorized sharing of any footage involving minors to be a grave matter that contradicts our core values and professional standards.”
According to Gunn, the handling of the situation by staff is also part of a comprehensive internal investigation.
“We can confirm that we are following all school policies and legal protocols to ensure a fair and thorough review,” Gunn said.
In the meantime, Boykins said she felt her son’s privacy had been violated.
“He says he’s embarrassed,” she said. “He didn’t want to go to school today ... my end result, they won’t be there next year for sure.”
The school confirmed Tuesday the administrator was fired.
