DELCO, N.C. (WECT) - The Columbus Regional Healthcare System (CRHS) has announced plans to build a new hospital campus in Delco.

According to the CRHS, a Certificate of Need application has been submitted for the new hospital, which will be named Columbus Regional East.

Columbus Regional East is planned to be a 30-bed acute care hospital, including:

  • State-of-the-art operating room
  • 24/7 emergency department
  • Advanced imaging services
  • Expert oncology care
  • 11 emergency treatment rooms
  • Medical-surgical beds
  • Diagnostic imaging services

CRHS states that the project is in response to more residents moving inland along the US 74 corridor, leading to long drives for medical care.

“Columbus Regional East will ensure that working families, seniors, and everyone in between can access emergency care, surgical services, and specialized treatments close to home—without long drives through congested traffic or overcrowded emergency departments," stated CRHS President and CEO, Jason Beck. “This is about meeting people where they are and delivering the care they deserve.”

The hospital will be located on the former Acme-Delco Middle School property near the intersection of U.S. 74 and N.C. 87.
