Camp Lejeune and New River to implement REAL ID Act for access
CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (WECT) - Camp Lejeune and New River are implementing the REAL ID Act as of Sept. 1.
Contractors, vendors, suppliers, service providers, and visitors will be required to use Real ID and undergo vetting at the Visitor Control Center.
Alternate forms of identification can still be used, and officers will issue a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) credential or paper pass.
“This shift allows us to simplify our access control process while continuing to maintain a secure environment for our Marines, sailors and their families,” said Brig. Gen. Ralph J. Rizzo, Jr., commanding general, Marine Corps Installations East—Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. “REAL ID provides a consistent and reliable credential that aligns with Department of Defense policies and nationwide standards.”
The change will reduce reliance on card-printing systems and lower maintenance costs. Anyone who already possesses a DBIDS card may continue to use it until its expiration.
A complete list of acceptable alternate IDs can be found here.
