PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - A Pender County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputy passed away on Tuesday evening.

According to PCSO Sergeant Chester Ward, Deputy Lendon Lampley suffered a medical emergency at his home in Rocky Point on June 10.

Ward stated that they took Lampley to the hospital, where he died, and then they escorted his body to Wallace.

Sheriff Alan Cutler says Lampley started at the Sheriff’s Office in January of this year. He tells us even in that short time, Lampley made an impact.

“We weren’t able to enjoy him very long, but in the short time he was here, he was an asset to the county and our agency,” said Cutler. “We already have developed such a love for him and his family.

The Sheriff’s Office is keeping their flags at half-staff and a truck parked out front as a memorial.

Cutler, it’ll be there through at least Saturday. He asks you to keep them and Lampley’s family in your prayers.

“It has been difficult,” said Cutler. “We have just become such a tight-knit family. It’s unfortunate when these incidents occur, but it’s a reminder we are family.”
