Cyclist bikes across America to support law enforcement

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Bill Morin has made it his mission to show support for the men and women of law enforcement. For the last several months, he's been riding his bicycle to police departments in different cities thanking them for their service.
Morin's trip began in Seattle and on Monday he arrived to the Port City, approximately 3,000 miles away, to stop by the Wilmington Police Department.
"Nothing can compare to standing face-to-face and telling these men and women 'thank you,'" Morin said. "I'm putting 4,000 miles on this bicycle just to say thank you to [police officers], and to see how it makes them feel, and what kind of encouragement it is. Every one of them – they're inspired – they want to take my picture as I want to take theirs, because in my mind they are the true heroes."
Morin explained a negative perception of law enforcement inspired him to make the trek.
"You have to realize these men and women are the same people that have kids that go to school with your children, that play sports with your kids, that sit in your church pews, and they're just human beings that have a tough job to do," Morin said. "Are they 100 percent perfect? There's 900,000 registered law enforcement officials, if there are bad ones it's a fraction of one percent."
The final phase of Morin's trip will take him to Boston, Massachusetts, which will put his travels at roughly 4,000 miles. He hopes to arrive there in mid-September.
When asked if this was a one-time event, Morin said his wife jokingly told him he could walk across America.
