CFCC's Humanities and Fine Arts Center gets new name

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Cape Fear Community College Humanities and Fine Arts Center officially has a new name - the Allan and Laura Wilson Humanities and Fine Arts Center.
WECT previously reported that the Board of Trustees for Cape Fear Community College approved a $1.5 million donation from Allan and Laura Wilson for the naming of the Humanities and Fine Arts Center at a meeting on Feb. 25.
The donation is the largest gift that CFCC has ever received.
According to CFCC officials, the Wilsons have been philanthropic supporters of the school for more than 15 years. In 1999, they set up an endowed scholarship for second-year students from Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties.
"The Wilsons' generous donation to the Cape Fear Community College Humanities and Fine Arts Center will make an enormous impact," CFCC Board of Trustees Chair William Turner said. "Nearly every curriculum student at CFCC takes a class in the Center, and tens of thousands of community members have already attended sell-out performances at the facility. With this gift we can continue to offer world-class education and entertainment opportunities for years to come."
"The Wilson family has been an important fixture in our community for decades," Cape Fear Community College President Dr. Amanda Lee said. "The Wilsons' have given so much to our city, and they continue to be an integral part of our community's success. We are honored that they have chosen to support the students of Cape Fear Community College with their gift."
Ruth and Bucky Stein donated $150,000 for the naming of two second floor vestibules in the center.
