WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -
The first of two new wood pellet domes has been inflated on North Carolina State Ports property.
The structure was setup at early Monday morning.
The Enviva company has plans to build two large storage domes on ports property.
"We think it's a great opportunity for Wilmington to be a part of a growing business and a business that's having a positive impact on the environment and we are very happy to be here and participate in the economic growth of Wilmington," said Kent Jenkins, Vice President of Communications for Enviva.
Enviva officials recently signed a good neighbor agreement with residents of the Sunset Park Neighborhood Association.
The document states Enviva will do a number of things, including advocate for a sound barrier at the ports and respond to any neighborhood concerns quickly.
A news release from the company states the dome project is bringing millions of dollars in investment to the region and 23 new jobs to the Port City.
Company officials hope to have the domes fully functional by next March
