
Source: Zach HuntNEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Three people were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after a multi-car accident, one airlifted by helicopter with severe injuries.
Police shut down all lanes of traffic on Market Street so the AirLink helicopter could land and transport the patient. The road reopened around 2:45 Friday afternoon.
Highway patrol investigators interviewed victims of the multi-car accident at Market Street and Amaryllis Drive.
According to Trooper Rose with Highway Patrol, a woman driving a Suzuki crossed the center lane on Market Street and caused a head-on collision. Three witnesses told officials the woman was driving recklessly, weaving in and out of lanes.
The driver of the Suzuki was the patient airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
An ambulance took two people from the other car that was involved to the hospital.
Charges are pending against the woman driving the Suzuki until troopers have a chance to interview her.
