NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Protestors gathered in the Monkey Junction area Friday morning to rally against President Obama's health care plan.

Americans for Prosperity of North Carolina sponsored the event and is driving across the state in the "Hands off my Health Care" bus.

The group is trying to raise awareness about free market health care solutions.

Organizers said they saw thousands of people stop by from 6am-10am.  They have collected over 1,000 petitions against the President's plan.

"Here in Wilmington its been incredible," said Dallas Woodhouse, the state director of American's for Prosperity of NC.  "Thousands of people came out earlier in the morning to protest the big government take over of health care. When the bus rolled in, people were cheering and happy and ready to see it. They're excited because they wanted a way to make their voices heard in Washington that they really do not want government bureaucrats in their exam rooms with them and their doctor."

Americans for Prosperity will meet at Jungle Rapids August 20 at 6:30 PM to answer questions the public may have.
