WILMINGTON -- Michael Jordan is giving back to the Community Boys & Girls Club, where he spent hours of his childhood before moving on to a hall-of-fame career in the NBA.
Jordan sent the club $100,000 to help it stay open and serve more young people. Officials say the money will help with a variety of programs and fund daily operations.
The club is buzzing about the donation and even the children know it's a big deal.
"Many who are 12 and older have a tremendous respect for him the athlete, but now they are getting to see a side of him the rest of us know. He's a very generous and caring person," said Wayne Lofton, the club's director.
Jordan has been a contributor to the Community Boys & Girls Club fore many years. He's now an executive with the Charlotte Bobcats NBA team.
