LELAND, NC (WECT) - Flooding from Hurricane Florence caused a pump station failure in Stoney Creek Plantation that resulted in 228,000 gallons of untreated sewage mixing with floodwater.

According to a news release from H2GO — Brunswick County's regional water and sewer service — the company's Stoney Creek pump was submerged in floodwater during the storm Sept. 15-19. The overflow was reported to the North Carolina Division of Water Quality on Sept. 17.

When water receded on Sept. 19, H2GO staff restored operations with a temporary bypass pump. The company is working on a complete pump station rebuild.
