CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - Carolina Beach Town Council voted 4-1 Tuesday night to fire Town Manager Michael Cramer effective immediately.
The vote followed a closed session during the council's first meeting since Hurricane Florence swept through the region. Mayor Pro Tem Tom Bridges was the sole dissenting vote.
Council members declined to provide specifics surrounding Cramer's firing, citing the state's personnel law. Councilman Steve Shuttleworth said the town "decided to move in a different direction," and that they wish Cramer "all the best" in the future.
Cramer was hired as town manager in October 2013 with a starting salary of $88,560. At the time of his firing, his annual salary was $145,586.98, according to records provided by the town.
Per his contract, the town will pay Cramer a lump sum cash payment equal to six months aggregate salary, or just under $73,000.
Town council voted to appoint Assistant Town Manager Ed Parvin as Interim Manager.
