WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Help is arriving in many forms after Hurricane Florence and one of those forms is barbecue.

Operation BBQ Relief, a group of champion barbecue cooks, is in the Wilmington area serving up meals for those in need. The Salvation Army will serve the group's barbecue for the next several days.

The group has run out of food Thursday, but plans to resume feeding people on Friday. Operation BBQ was set up in the former Kmart parking on College Road. Meals are scheduled to be given out at noon and 6 p.m.

One Leland resident said he was thankful for the fresh meal.

"I expect it will be a couple more days at least before power comes back on so I've been trying to come here to get a hot meal and get settled in," said Antonio Montgomery. "It's about the only way I can get hot food right now."

Operation BBQ started seven years ago and travels to sites to feed people affected by disasters.
