WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A lot of touring comedians arrive in a city, do their shows and take the first available flight out of town.

Nate Craig was in no hurry to leave Wilmington the last time he was here and during a Tuesday afternoon phone interview, he said he is eager to return.

Craig, who headlines the Dead Crow Comedy Room this weekend, has an album taping coming up Sept. 15 and said he's looking forward to fine-tuning his material in the Port City.

"I think pretty much any comic you'll talk to that works Dead Crow would say good things about it," Craig said. "(Co-owner) Timmy (Sherrill) and (General Manager) Aimee (Elfers) and everybody that works there are great. They're comedy people. Some clubs are just there to sell Bud Light, but some clubs are all about the show and the customers. If they care about the show and the customers, then that's all that really matters to comics."

In addition to the album taping and headline shows, Craig also landed a role in Netflix's Maniac, which is scheduled to stream beginning Sept. 21.

The show stars Emma Stone and Jonah Hill and is directed by Cary Fukunaga, who also directed the first season of HBO's True Detective starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Working with actors like Stone, Hill and Gabriel Byrne on the Maniac set was rewarding and enlightening for Craig.

"It was the best job I ever got," Craig said. "I'm a stand-up comedian by trade. I've gotten a couple of jobs on TV, but working with people who are at that level of celebrity is interesting and pretty fun to watch."

As much as Craig enjoys Dead Crow, he said enjoys other aspects of Wilmington as well.

"The club is phenomenal and the town is beautiful," said Craig, who is from Wisconsin and lives in Los Angeles, which is where he is taping the upcoming album. "It's just a great place to go for a weekend.

"I stayed a couple extra days last time I was there. The Cape (Fear River) is gorgeous. You're right beside the ocean. It's not bad living there in Wilmington."
