WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Several breweries are coming together to celebrate an under-appreciated beer.
Lagerfest is from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 at Wrightsville Beach Brewery.
Jud Watkins, who owns the brewery, joined us on WECT News First at Four and explained why he wants to showcase lagers.
"Macro beer really went hard after them for a long time so microbreweries wanting to distinguish themselves from the big companies went hard after pale ales, IPAs, those styles you see a lot of that have that hop-forward profile," he said. "A lot of craft beer enthusiasts have said for years that lagers, they don't necessarily have as much flavor, but I think if you come out Saturday you are really going to see a great showcase of a wide variety of lagers and you'll see lagers can be hoppy, lagers can be a lot of different things. This is a fun way to show them off."
Breweries participating in Lagerfest include Broomtail Craft Brewery, Check Six Brewing, Deep River Brewing, Front Street Brewery, Makai Brewing, Salty Turtle Beer Company, and Wilmington Brewing. The Folkstone Stringband will perform.
