WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Residents on Montgomery Avenue in Wilmington may have spotted a big shark carrying an even bigger check on Thursday. He was headed to the latest renovation site hosted by Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry (WARM) to drop off a donation.

On June 26, Salt Air, Inc. and the Wilmington Sharks baseball team partnered to raise money for WARM, a local nonprofit whose mission is to make safety repairs and accessibility upgrades for elderly, disabled or low-income homeowners. Their projects are in Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties, all with an effort to keep people in the homes they already have.

With material costs at a premium, every dollar counts, as does every hour of manpower donated.

On Thursday, Salt Air and the Sharks presented a check for $3,900. More than $2,000 of which came from the June games raffle, jersey auction, and a portion of ticket sales. Salt Air added another $1,000.

At the renovation site on Montgomery Ave. the money traded hands while a church volunteer group from Pennsylvania worked on a house.

WARM has more than tripled the number of homes repaired annually in the past decade and continues to grow.
