Commissioners are expected to give two construction companies the green light to build additions to two elementary schools and build a new middle school at Monday's regular meeting.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Due to heavy rainfall Friday morning and predicated rainfall throughout the rest of the day, Brunswick County officials have decided to close all government offices, including the county courthouse, early.

The National Weather Service is predicting more rain to fall, starting in Calabash at 1 p.m. and spreading throughout Brunswick County for next two to three hours. One-quarter to one-half of an inch of rain is expected with some areas receiving as much as 1.5 to 2 inches.

Officials say, out of an abundance of caution, county government will close offices for all non-essential employees at noon.

Just before 1 p.m., court officials said they were in the process of closing the Brunswick County Courthouse.

As a reminder, road conditions can change quickly and residents should not attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
