WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The nearly two weeks of rain has delayed move-in day for the Cargo District, Wilmington's first container community.
Tenants of the new container homes were expected to move in on August 1, but the near record-setting rain pushed that date back to August 15.
The Cargo District is allowing tenants to store items in its warehouse while they wait. Marketing Coordinator Dani Natcher says construction workers have been working around the clock, seven days a week in an effort to complete the project by the August 15.
"It's surprising how graceful our tenants have been actually," Natcher said. "We have a couple people coming from out of state so it's been very nice to see how they're working with it; staying with friends, getting hotels, that kind of thing and keeping their stuff in storage here while we work on this completion mode."
Natcher says they currently have nine units but are planning to expand due to a huge wait list.
