Plastic ban starts close to home
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - With Starbucks announcing it would end the use of plastic straws by 2020, one group in Wilmington wants others to know they can make just as big of an impact.
The Plastic Ocean Project is a non-profit group based in Wilmington that works year round to try and find a solution for the plastic problem.
According to the group's mission, "Our intention is to create a collective community focused on reducing plastic use while finding innovation and collaboration around giving plastic waste value that will encourage the "mining" of plastics on and offshore."
Teams from UNCW, Duke, and NC State all work with Plastic Ocean Project to create work that's impacted the Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach Community.
