Pirates hammer Seahawks in NCAA regional opener

GREENVILLE, NC (WECT) - East Carolina pounded out 17 hits in a 16-7 victory over UNCW at an NCAA baseball regional tournament in Greenville on Friday.

The host Pirates (44-16) scored runs in each of the first five innings, including four in the first and three in the third and fifth frames to cruise to the victory over the Seahawks (37-22) in Clark-LeClair Stadium.

Connor Litton went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored to pace top-seed ECU.

Kep Brown led UNCW, going 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Starting pitcher Alex Royalty fell to 6-5 this season after lasting just two innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits.

The Seahawks play again Saturday at noon in a loser's bracket game against Ohio State.
