WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Veterans and the country they fought for were served a touching tribute from some young students Wednesday afternoon.

Students at New Horizons Elementary School participated in the school's 10th annual parade honoring veterans and the United States. Kids created state-themed floats decked out with props and decorations.

"It took me a week to make it and we just went pretty much everywhere we could find stuff that had to do with Georgia," Saunders Harvey, who created a float honoring the Peach State, said.

Saunders and the rest of the students families were invited to attend. More than a dozen veterans were in the crowd as students sang patriotic songs and thanked them for their service.

"During Veterans Day, we write letters to veterans so this isn't the only time we honor them," Ansley Trask, a kindergarten teacher at New Horizons, said. "But to see them all walk up brings tears to your eyes. It's amazing what they've given to our country."
