UNCW men's basketball conference schedule

BROOKLINE, Mass. - UNCW rallied with three runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth highlighted by a two-run home run by Ryan Jeffers, as the Seahawks topped homestanding Northeastern, 6-4, to win the Colonial Athletic Association series on Sunday at Friedman Diamond.

The Seahawks raised their record to 31-19 with the win and 13-8 in the conference. It was their ninth win of the season in their last at bat. The Huskies, who lead the conference, saw their record dip to 31-17 and 15-6 in the CAA.

In the ninth inning, Jeffers delivered the go-ahead runs on a two-run homer to left to make it 5-3. It was his 13th homer of the season.

Reliever Logan Beehler (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief and Clark Cota converted his 13th save of the season to tie the program record set by Blake Cross in 2003.

NU closer Andrew Misiaszek (1-2) took the loss, allowing all three runs in the ninth.

Greg Jones, Kep Brown and Cole Weiss had two hits apiece while Jeffers and Brown drove in two runs each.

Charlie McConnell and Mason Koppens paced the Huskies with two hits on the afternoon.

Up Next: The Seahawks close out non-conference play on May 15 with a 6 p.m. start against nationally-ranked North Carolina at Brooks Field.

How it happened: With the game tied at 3-all in the ninth, Zack Canada led off the inning with a double to left. Jeffers stepped to the plate and knocked the first offering he saw from Misiaszek over the wall in left for a 5-3 lead.

Notes: Mason Berne broke the UNCW record when he reached base safely for the 44th consecutive game with a first inning walk … Reliever Henry Ryan went a career-long 3 1/3 innings out of the pen and did not allow a run … NU starter Sean Mellen didn't figure in the decision, but struck out nine and allowed one hit over six innings … Both Brown and Weiss had five hits apiece on the weekend and drove in five runs each, Brown had three double and Weiss added two … UNCW has now won two of its last three series at Friedman Diamond … Northeastern saw its record slide to 14-4 at home.
