WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - People filled up on food at the Food Truck Rodeo Sunday in Ogden Park.

New Hanover County Parks and Gardens hosted the event to raise money for the parks in the area.

An event that started with only a handful of trucks has grown to a record 29 food trucks and vendors for the upcoming event.

According to Janine Powell, with Parks and Gardens, the event raised money for an American Ninja Warrior style fitness course that will be added to the Northern Regional Park in Castle Hayne. A portion of the sales from each truck went to the project.

Organizers said an event like this not only helps the parks in the future, but right now too.

"An event like is perfect because not only does it bring people out to a park that maybe they've never been too, it also supports one of our projects. So, Parks Conservancy, our only mission is to support New Hanover County parks and special projects" Powell said.

Local favorites like Catch, Poor Piggy's BBQ and P.T.'s Olde Fashioned Grille were there, as well as new local trucks including Port City Puffs N Stuff and The Little Chef. A truck even came all the way from the Raleigh area.

Fermental and Noni Bacca sold beer and wine, and Boba Funk & Friends provided live music.

The park's project is expected to cost $175,000 and construction will start once the money is raised.
